Creating Meaningful Video Content in a TikTok World

We know you’re probably sick of hearing it by now, but if you aren’t making video content, you should be.

As much as it seems like trends come and go, it seems as though video is here to stay. You may be annoyed with Instagram for “trying to be the next TikTok” and while there may be some truth to that, the fact of the matter is that video receives higher engagement and is simply much more entertaining to the user. When an algorithm is solely based on engagement, it’s going to push the higher engaging content to the forefront – enter, video.

Static imagery will always have its place and we, by no means, think you should abandon ship on photos and run to video. However, videos are becoming an increasingly important piece to the puzzle of social content that every well-rounded social plan should utilize.

Butttt, how do you start? Maybe you've tried your hand at creating videos here and there, but aren't seeing too much of a return? Well, the good news is that it’s never too late to get started or to revisit the idea, you just have to bite the bullet and get going!

So this month we wanted to share some ideas, and tips + tricks on making videos with a purpose. At Set, we believe all content should be rooted in purpose and storytelling, content should never be made for the sake of making content – video is no different.

Here are a couple of ways how you can create meaningful content with a purpose:

Share what makes you different and unique.
Why should a consumer choose your product instead of the next leading competitor?

Tell your origin story!
Everyone has a story to share about how they got started and you are no different, so go ahead and tell it. This allows your consumers to engage with real, relatable content about your personal growth alongside your brand growth – it's priceless.

Share who you really are, like really realllllyy who you are. Really.
We're talking BTS, Day in the Life, and Vlogging. While you’re in the spirit of storytelling, keep the trend going and share about your day, life, workplace, and so on. It reminds people that a real-life person is behind your brand and product, which builds trust.

Provide value!
Educate your audience or help solve a problem of some kind. Find a way that your product or service helps solve a problem in your consumer’s life, and teach them ways that they are best able to utilize that product or service to better improve their lives.

Inspire action!
Use your product in a way that is exciting or different that maybe a customer hasn’t thought of yet – it gets the creativity flowing and could lead to valuable user-generated content (UGC) down the road.
